The Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA) is a major Texas consumer-protection law that prohibits deceptive, misleading, or unfair trade practices in consumer transactions. A consumer can potentially bring claims under the DTPA when a business’s conduct violates the statute, including in contexts involving sales, warranties, or representations about products and services.
While this isn’t tech- or warranty-specific, it can materially affect AppleCare+ if Apple (or sellers/authorized providers) makes potentially misleading statements about coverage, exclusions, claim processes, pricing, or refunds in Texas. AppleCare+ may need to ensure marketing and contract terms are consistent with what’s promised to consumers, and that claim handling and disclosures reduce risk of DTPA-based allegations (including those framed as unfair or deceptive practices).
